Nov. 6 election candidates can pull petitions today

Candidates for the Nov. 6 general election will be able to pick up their petitions today as numerous potential candidates have announced their intentions to run in local city elections.

All three local municipalities will hold a mayoral election this November and candidates for Lebanon City Council Wards 1, 3 and 5, Mt. Juliet City Commission Districts 1 and 3 and three at-large Watertown Alderman positions are open for election.

In Lebanon, Ward 2 Councilor Kevin Huddleston and Ward 5 Councilor Haywood Barry said they do not plan to run for re-election.

“I believe in term limits and I’m going to stick to that, I’ve had two terms,” Barry said.

Several candidates have announced their intentions to compete for Barry’s seat representing citizens in Ward 5, including former Public Safety Commissioner Billy Weeks, Robert “Tick” Bryan and Chase Williams. Also rumored to be running for the Ward 5 seat are former councilor Jim Mills and Romel McMurry.

At least two potential candidates are said to be to running for Huddleston’s Ward 2 council seat, including WANT/WCOR deejay and former councilor Fred Burton and current District 20 Wilson County Commissioner and former city councilor Annette Stafford.

Ward 1 Councilor Alex Buhler has not indicated whether he will seek reelection in November, but Richard Rogers has announced his intent to run for that council seat.

No potential candidates for Lebanon Mayor have come forward at this point in time to challenge incumbent Philip Craighead.

Candidates must pick up a petition and file before August 16 at noon at the Wilson County Election Commission office in Lebanon.

Early voting for the Aug. 2 county general election and State Primary begins July 13 and end July 28.

The last day to register to vote in the Aug. 2 election is Tuesday, July 3.
